How to Unlock Your Nokia Cell Phone

Typically when you purchase a cell phone, the company that sold you the phone (ex: AT&T) “locked” the phone before you bought it, so you can only use it on their network. Follow along after the jump to learn how to unlock a Nokia phone.

STEPS-

1. Before trying anything else, contact your service provider and ask for an unlock code. Usually, if you’ve been a customer of theirs for some time, they will provide you with an unlock code for free. This is, by far, the best way to get your phone unlocked.

2. Download software to generate the unlocking code. Software is available on some websites for free and some paid websites that also offer support if things go wrong. See external links below.

3. Find the Serial number of the cell phone, also known as your IMEI number. This can be done by either removing the back of your cell phone and looking underneath the battery, or simply by typing in *#06# into your cell phone. It should be something like: 010082321439976/07951780736

4. Enter your manufacturer into the software you’ve downloaded.

5.Take the SIM card out of your phone. Replace the battery and power the phone on.

6. Enter the SIM card info into the software. You will see a message “Insert SIM Card”. Enter all of the characters you see in your code, including the # symbols. To get a ‘p’ press * 3 times, to get a ‘+’ press the * key 2 times, to get a ‘w’ press the * key 4 times. Disregard any spaces in the code.

7. Try other codes. In order to unlock your phone you generally need to enter only one code. Start with the first one. If your phone is not unlocked by typing the first code (MCC+MNC), use code “7” (Multilock)

  • Once you have finished entering a code that works you should see a message that says “SIM is not restricted” or “Restriction off” message depending on your model. If not, try entering another code. Message “Cannot undo restrictions” means the phone is “hard-locked” and cannot be unlocked by code.

The next generation of Nokia Lumia handsets may boast Canon camera tech

Microsoft and Canon have announced a broad cross-licensing agreement which, potentially, could see Canon’s optics, lens and image processing technology find a way into future Nokia Lumia smartphones.

The pact, announced earlier this week, allows the companies free access to each other’s patent portfolios, including “certain digital imaging and mobile consumer products.”
Nokia mobile phones and then smartphones have long been renowned for their advanced imaging technology, such as the 41-megapixel Pureview devices like the Nokia Lumia 1020.
The addition of Canon tech could give Microsoft an imaging advantage over Apple and Android manufacturers like Samsung and HTC moving forward.

Possibilities

Traditionally Nokia had deployed Carl Zeiss lenses on its high-end smartphones, while pioneering its own market-leading sensors, such as the DSLR-sized one within the Pureview range.
Nokia has also pushed out some fine imaging software in recent years, with its ever improving Nokia Camera app leading the way.
Meanwhile, Microsoft may be envisioning the Canon partnership as a means of enhancing the Kinect sensor while, for Canon, could a Windows-powered digital camera be in the way?

Facebook For Every Phone: Mobile Application For All The Phones In The World!

Facebook, hugely popular social networking website, has an interactive mobile website for getting its users hooked up to addictive platform. However the website has its own set of limitations and every other feature/function of Facebook cannot be cramped into mobile web version. For this reason, it has come up with a dedicated mobile applications for, well, virtually every mobile phone in this world!

Facebook for Every Phone is a pint sized java based application available for all the phones capable of running java (J2ME) applications, which I think almost every low-end (Smartphones too! Seriously? ;) ) mobile phone will be able to do. Although smartphone users can opt for better Facebook clients viz. Gravity, Borg, etc but Facebook app, developed by geeks at Facebook, provides a good experience as well.
With a small installation size of just under 150 KB, Facebook for Every Phone publishes updates directly to your Facebook account without making use of any 3rd party service and such updates will show Facebook For Every Phone next to them. Facebook for Every Phone allows you to:
  • Browse through news feed,
  • View Inbox,
  • Accept/Reject Requests (friendship, event, etc),
  • View Notifications, Upcoming Events, Photos, Friends, Profile,
  • Find Friends and send them friend request,
  • Make a generic search on Facebook from application itself.
Some of the functions mentioned above viz. Accepting friend requests, find friends are some of the features that are unique to this application. Hence a certain advantage for using Facebook for Every Phone mobile Application over and above other 3rd party apps. In terms of customization, this app lags. Not many options are provided besides changing the font size, language, show news time/comment time although not many are needed as it is pre-configured with optimal settings.
Facebook for Every Phone app is available for free and can be downloaded by visiting: http://d.facebook.com/install from your mobiles default web browser.
