Facebook’s Newest Feature: the Save Button

Facebook has introduced its newest feature that allows users to save pages from their news feed for later viewing.
The Save button is a bookmarking tool that can easily save content such as links, pages, videos and articles so that users can check them out at their convenience.
It will appear in a few days on Facebook for both web and iOS and Android users.
The Save button came into existence because many users don’t have enough time to scroll through their news feed. Facebook thought of a solution to encourage users to share and access more content for their later perusal.

All saved items are private but users can share them with their friends. Facebook will also send reminders about the saved items to users that will show up on their news feeds. The Save button can be accessed through a drop-down button at the upper right corner of any post. Saved items will be organized in categories and can be found near the Like button.
Users can view all their saved content or arrange them by category on the left sidebar menu. For its mobile version, Facebook will introduce the Save button through a ‘More’ tab where all saved content is organized.
Before the Save button, users pseudo-bookmarked their favorite content by ‘liking’ them on Facebook and viewing them on their activity log. With hundreds of posts on their news feeds daily, users usually don’t have the time to explore and read everything in one sitting. This bookmarking tool can be compared to other bookmarking sites such as Pocket and Pinterest. Unfortunately, Facebook’s saved content cannot be accessed offline.
All saved items are also viewed as regular posts on Facebook where a saved item has its own privacy settings and can be liked, shared, and archived .

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 review

Key Features: 10.5-inch, 2,560 x 1,600 AMOLED display; Exynos 5 Octa 5420; 3GB RAM; 16GB storage; 802.11ac Wi-Fi; Bluetooth 4.0; microSD up to 128GB; 7,900mAh battery; 465g

What is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5?

The Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is the big brother to the Galaxy Tab S 8.4  its what the iPad Air is to the iPad mini 2. It has the same basic design and features. That means an outstanding 2,560 x 1,600 resolution Super AMOLED screen and plenty more besides. We loved the smaller version, so its no surprise that the 10.5-inch version is just as impressive.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5: Design

We like the the Galaxy Tab S 10.5s design, but we dont love it. The dimpled, soft-touch rear is pleasant to handle, but the bronze-gold colour scheme is an acquired taste. Its nothing like as refined as the iPad Air, which is a shame given they cost the same.

But the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is well put together and its a featherweight. It weighs just 465g, though this is only a few grams less than the iPad Air. Its also thin 6.6mm makes it 1mm thinner than the iPad Air. These are all fine margins, but the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 has less competition among Android tablets at this size. As 10-inch Android tablets go, its way out in front.

The other interesting design point is case support. We werent sent a case for the 8.4, but we have one for the Galaxy Tab S 10.5. Like the 8.4, it fastens to the tablet via rather odd jacket style poppers. They dont help the looks much, but they hold the case securely.

We like the case, too. Its slim, so adds little weight. It also offers three angles from which to view the screen. The only issue is the folding required to make them takes some learning. Even after a week or so were still fumbling about each time.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5: Features

This tablet has everything. You get the fastest version of Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.0. The Wi-Fi version has 16GB of storage built-in, but the microSD slot supports up to 128GB cards and there’s a 4G version that has 32GB built-in. Theres an IR Blaster for controlling your TV, too. We find the feature a little hit and miss, but its a nice extra. There are cameras front and back and theres an LED flash for the main camera a rare feature on a tablet.

Less impressive is the fingerprint reader. This is the same one found in the Galaxy S5 and its no more successful here. The swiping system is just too unreliable to use it to unlock your tablet. It only works 40/50% of the time, which isnt a great hit rate

4 Steps to Increase Your Blog Traffic

One of the most common complaints that I hear from bloggers is the fact that no matter how hard they try, they cant grow their blogs past 100 or so daily page vies. Those early days are indeed the hardest, because you need to put hard work in without the certainty of achieving results.
If you are in that same situation, here is a simple strategy that will certainly increase your blog traffic and make you break the 1,000 daily page views mark. In fact, the strategy could be used even if your are already over that number but have reached a traffic plateau lately.
Just make sure to execute the 4 steps as planned and to spend the two hours and a half every day (obviously if you have more time available you can expand the time spent on each of the four steps proportionally).

First Step: Killer Articles (1 hour per day)

Spend one hour brainstorming, researching and writing killer articles (also called linkbaits, pillar articles and so on).
Notice that your goal is to release one killer article every week. If that is not possible aim for one every 15 days. So the one hour that you will spend every day will be dedicated to the same piece. In other words, expect killers articles to take from 5 up to 10 hours of work.
If you are not familiar with the term, a killer article is nothing more than a long and structured article that has the goal of delivering a huge amount of value to potential visitors. If you have a web design blog, for example, you could write an article with 100 Free Resources for Designers. Here are some ideas for killer articles:
  • create a giant list of resources,
  • write a detailed tutorial teaching people how to do something,
  • find a solution for a common problem in your niche and write about it, or
  • write a deep analysis on a topic where people have only talked superficially
When visitors come across your killer article, you want them to have the following reaction: Holy crap! This is awesome. I better bookmark it. Heck, I better even mention this on my site and on my Twitter account, to let my readers and friends know about it.

Second Step: Networking (30 minutes per day)

Networking is essential, especially when you are just getting started. The 30 minutes that you will dedicate to it every day could be split among:
  • commenting on other blogs in your niche,
  • linking to the posts of bloggers in your niche, and
  • interacting with the bloggers in your niche via email, IM or Twitter.
Remember that your goal is to build genuine relationships, so dont approach people just because you think they can help to promote your blog. Approach them because you respect their work and because you think the two of you could grow together.

Third Step: Promotion (30 minutes per day)

The first activity here is the promotion of your killer articles. Whenever you publish one of them, you should push it in any way you can. Examples include:
  • letting the people in your network know about it (dont beg for a link though),
  • letting bloggers and webmasters in relevant niches know about it,
  • getting some friends to submit the article to social bookmarking sites,
  • getting some friends to Twitter the article, and
  • posting about the article in online forums and/or newsgroups.
If there is time left, spend it with search engine optimization, social media marketing and activities to promote your blog as whole. Those can range from keyword research to promoting your blog on Facebook and guest blogging.

Fourth Step: Normal Posts (30 minutes per day)

Just like a man does not live by bread alone, a blog does not live by killer articles alone. Normal posts are the ones that you will publish routinely in your blog, between the killer articles. For example, you could publish a killer article every Monday and normal posts from Tuesday through Friday. Here are some ideas for normal posts:
  • a post linking to an article on another blog and containing your opinion about it
  • a post informing your readers about a news in your niche
  • a post asking a question to your readers and aiming to initiate a discussion
  • a post highlighting a new resource or trick that you discovered and that would be useful to your readers

While killers articles are essential to promote your blog and bring new readers aboard, normal posts are the ones that will create diversity in your content and keep your readers engaged.
